In-situ Timber Preservation Chemicals

An essential part of maximising the service performance of timber and timber structures is that in-situ preservative treatment be carried out to minimise biological degradation. Pressure treated timber is protected against this form of degrade. However, every time treated timber is cut, exposing internal untreated sections, in-situ application of preservative is essential.
We are pleased to offer the following range of products, which we recommend for protection in-situ of timber structures.

Copper Naphthenate (CN) in various forms is offered.

CN Timber Emulsion is a barrier to fungal spore attack and consequent decay formation. The emulsion is a paste about the same consistency as chassis grease. The product is used on timber end grain, around posts at the ground line (and 300 mm below), at the interfaces of joints before assembly and on the top faces of girders and bearers.

It is available only in 20 kg pails .

Application is by paint brush, roller or squeegee. It has even been “airless” sprayed with appropriate face masks etc.
The oil soaking into the wood further takes the preservative (copper naphthenate) deep into the wood to combat decay. It is an oil, and thus time must be allowed for the material to soak into the wood. CN Oil is supplied in 20 litre drums or 200 litre drums.

Insecticides, such as “Vacsol T” described below, may be dispersed in this oil to add insect repellency.

CN Timber Oil

CN Timber Oil is employed on deck surfaces and for painting of fences and any exposed timbers. The product offers increased water repellency, which means that moisture uptake and loss due to weather conditions is reduced, with resultant reduction in swelling and shrinking which mechanically damages wood.
Application is by paint brush, roller or squeegee. It has even been “airless” sprayed with appropriate face masks etc.

NOTE! Paint coatings cannot normally be applied to timber which has had CN Timber Oil, previously applied as the water repellency reduces adhesion of paint.

Vacsol T, Timber Insecticide

Vacsol T, Timber Insecticide is one of the new, safer to use permethrin insecticidal products which has good “knock down.” It may be blended with kerosene or with CN Timber Oil to enhance termite resistance. It can even be blended with water but the evaporation rate is higher with water reducing the effective life of the treatment. This is a highly concentrated product and it is used at the rate of 0.2 litres of Vacsol T to 100 litres of oil.
